PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT DRIVEN BY CLIENT NEEDS: BESPOKE FULLY GLAZED SLIDING DOORS

We engineer our partition products to work as a complete, integrated system, but our initiatives with product innovation allow us to modify them when we see a good opportunity.  One example is our project at the Cromwell Hospital, where the client had a specific brief for flush glazed sliding door sets requiring manual synchronised opening for recovery suites.

Client struggles lead to product innovation

The sliding glass doors and flush glazed side panels all needed to achieve switchable opacity to allow privacy at the touch of a button.  Additionally, due to the controlled environment of a critical care facility, the glazed doors needed to meet specific hygienic requirements.

Initially we excluded these glazed doors from our offering. However, as the project developed, the client struggled to find suitable products that met their brief, especially the hygienic requirements. This prompted us to rethink our offer, and to develop a concept in-house to support them.

Using our own systems and working with our supply chain partners here in the UK, we were able to source the required critical components. This included components for the sliding mechanism, integrated switchable glass and most importantly, the frame and seals required to maintain the controlled environment in each recovery suite.

The end result

We made some tweaks and improvements during our design journey, as with all live R&D projects. But, the end result is a proven range of sliding doors that work well, can meet a brief for hygienic applications and has expanded our offering for future projects.

And the best bit? We kept it local for a fully ‘Made in the UK’ solution.
